¿Cómo nació y se desarrolló el proyecto de Feria Vegana?
Feria Vegana BA es un proyecto independiente que comenzó hace menos de un año. Es la primera Feria Vegana de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Nació como feria itinerante en junio de 2019 con solo 15 puestos y hoy ya es un evento de dos días completos que se realiza mensualmente en el Playón del Mercado de Pulgas (Concepción Arenal y Enrique Martínez). Un lugar hermoso en el cual la feria sigue creciendo. Hoy tenemos más de 50 puestos, charlas, actividades y música en vivo.
¿Quiénes visitan la feria?
El público que viene es vegano y no vegano, y eso es buenísimo. Porque tenemos posibilidad de dar a conocer esta filosofía de vida. Todo lo que sucede en la feria es vegano 100%, desde que empieza hasta que termina. Es nuestra manera de activar y de comunicar. Se rompen muchos mitos, porque permite dar respuesta a una cantidad temas y dudas y de algún modo, combatir la desinformación que hay dando vueltas.
¿Cómo ven la actualidad del movimiento vegano hoy en Buenos Aires y Argentina?
El veganismo está en un momento de claro crecimiento y expansión. Cada vez más gente comienza a replantearse sus consumos, su forma de alimentarse, su forma de vivir. No es llamativo que el movimiento vegano esté atravesado por las nuevas generaciones, que son las que van tomando conciencia y se permiten cuestionar una cantidad de consignas dadas, como por ejemplo las tres famosas N. Nos dicen que comer carne, huevo y tomar leche es Natural, Necesario y Normal. Lo cierto es que las cosas no son ni naturales ni necesarias ni normales. Sencillamente, son culturales. Así nos enseñaron. El replanteo de la cultura y el romper con una cuestión dada en general está en manos de las nuevas generaciones.
En los medios masivo de comunicación comenzaron a publicarse notas vinculadas al veganismo, algunas a favor y otras en contra. Nuestra percepción es que el tema comenzó a estar en la agenda, y esa es una muy buena noticia.
¿Quiénes hacen Feria Vegana BA?
Somos un hermoso equipo que trabaja con una concepción horizontal, con mucha gente joven. La mesa chica está integrada por nosotras, Gabriela Wilensky y Daniela Piccirillo + Sofía Larriera, coordinadora operativa. Pero el equipo es más amplio; en distintas áreas trabajan Mauro Ibarra, Katia Glasman y Michelle Gualda.
¿Cómo trabajan desde la Feria?
Desde FVBA trabajamos desde una perspectiva ética vinculada al sufrimiento animal. Junto a Univegan – que es el Movimiento Vegano que nos acompaña desde el principio y va creciendo – decidimos abordar otros tópicos que están vinculados, como la reducción de plásticos de un solo uso, promoviendo que la gente traiga su recipiente o con la incorporación de ecovasos. Adicionalmente abordamos otros tópicos relativos al cambio climático u otros conceptos que están interconectados y son coherentes con el veganismo. Porque de alguna manera, es muy difícil que seas vegano y no tomes conciencia respecto de las elecciones que hacés, el ciclo vinculado al consumo, qué pasa con tus desechos, cuánto es basura, cuánto es reciclable, etc. Todo está vinculado.
¿Cómo sigue este proyecto?
La FVBA no es una feria netamente de alimentos sino es más bien una experiencia, un evento. Un espacio en el cual podes comer comida vegana, disfrutar, tomar jugos, cerveza y escuchar un show, charlas informativas, educativas, evacuar consultas, participar de sorteos. Hay emprendimientos de cosmética libre de sufrimiento animal, comida para perros vegana, decoración, plantas. Todos curados por la organización. También tenemos espacio para refugios y santuarios de animales y para grupos activistas. Porque la Feria en sí misma es nuestra manera de activar, de dar a conocer, de educar, de informar y de generar conciencia
Estamos realmente felices porque la feria está creciendo, se van incorporando cada vez más emprendimientos y vamos tocando distintos aspectos y distintas alternativas.
Ya no es más una feria itinerante donde la gente viene, consume y se va. Hoy se transformó en un evento de dos días, en el cual la gente viene a compartir. Un punto de encuentro para que la gente pueda aprender, disfrutar, conocer otra gente. Este es nuestro aspiracional y obviamente, seguir creciendo.

How was the Vegan Fair project born and developed?
Feria Vegana BA is an independent project that began less than a year ago. It is the first Vegan Fair of Buenos Aires City. It was born as an itinerant fair in June 2019 with only 15 vendors and today it is a two-day event that takes place monthly near Buenos Aires Flea Market (Concepción Arenal St. and Enrique Martínez St). It is beautiful place where the fair continues to grow. Today we have more than 50 vendors, talks, activities and live music.
Who visits the fair?
The audience is vegan and not vegan, and that’s great. Because we have the possibility of promoting this philosophy of life. Everything that happens at the fair is 100% vegan, from the beginning until the end. It is our way of activating and communicating. Many myths are broken, because it allows answering a number of issues and doubts and somehow, discussing the misinformation that is going around.
How do you see the news of the vegan movement today in Buenos Aires and Argentina?
Veganism is in a moment of clear growth and expansion. More and more people begin to rethink their habits, the way they eat, the way they live. It is not surprising that the vegan movement is crossed by the new generations, which are the ones that are becoming aware and are allowed to question a number of slogans given, such as the three famous N. They tell us that eating meat, eggs and drinking milk is Natural, Necessary and Normal. The truth is that things are neither natural nor necessary nor normal. They are simply cultural. Thus they taught us. The rethinking of culture and breaking with a given issue in general is in the hands of the new generations.
In the mass media, articles related to veganism began to be published, some in favor and others against. Our perception is that the subject began to be on the agenda, and that is very good news.
Who do Feria Vegana BA?
We are a team that works with a horizontal conception, with many young people. The small table is composed of us, Gabriela Wilensky and Daniela Piccirillo + Sofía Larriera, operational coordinator. But the team is broader; Mauro Ibarra, Katia Glasman and Michelle Gualda work in different areas.
How do you work?
From FVBA we work with an ethical perspective linked to animal suffering. Together with Univegan – which is the Vegan Movement that accompanies us from the beginning and is growing – we decided to address other topics that are linked, such as the reduction of single-use plastics, promoting people to bring their containers to eat or the incorporation of eco-cups. Additionally, we address other topics related to climate change or other concepts that are interconnected and consistent with veganism. Because somehow, it is very difficult to be vegan and not aware of the choices you make, the cycle linked to consumption, what happens to your waste, how much is garbage, how much is recyclable, etc. Everything is linked.
How will this project continue?
The FVBA is more than a food fair; it is an experience, an event. A space in which you can eat vegan food, enjoy, drink juices, beer and listen to a show, to informative and educational talks, ask your questions, participate. There are cosmetics ventures free of animal suffering, vegan food for dogs, decoration, plants. All curated by the organization. We also have space for animal shelters and sanctuaries and for activist groups. Because the fair itself is our way of activating, to let know, educate, informe and raise awareness
We are really happy because the fair is growing, more and more people and ventures are being incorporated and we are working with different aspects and alternatives.
It is no longer an itinerant fair where people come, eat and leave. Today it became a two-day event, in which people come to enjoy and share. A meeting point for people to learn, enjoy, meet other people.
This is our aspirational and obviously, to keep growing.
